Welcome to LandHelp.info!

Why LandHelp.info?

LandHelp.info is an overhauled version of LandHelp.org. The top-level domain suffix ".info" was deemed more appropriate to the intent of the LandHelp site: that of being a "one-stop shopping" site that contains pointers to whatever land-related information you might seek. The data from the old site is available on the new site in a form that is more attractive, easier to use, and easier to administer. The functionality of the old site has been included in the new one, and more will be added as time goes on.

Text Size

This website has two main methods of displaying information: HTML, displayed by the web browser (such as the page you're reading right now), and PDF files, which are displayed via Adobe Acrobat. Depending on the size and resolution of your computer's screen, the size of your window, your default settings, and even your distance from the screen, the text may appear too large or too small for convenient reading. Here is how you can change the text size to be more easily readable:

Help Links

Scattered throughout the site are "Help Links"--little white question marks in blue circles (for example, to the right of the "Home" link in the navigation bar at left). Click on these for help and instructions on the topic adjacent to the question mark.

Search

The Search mechanism is much more powerful in the new version of the site: it offers multiple search keys, an "and/or" switch, whole-word mode, selectable case-sensitivity, and even regular expressions.

Four areas can be searched:

The third one above was added to allow you to, for example, search for all Teaching Packages, regardless of the section or subsection in which they might reside. See the Help Links on the Search page for more detail.

The Navigation Bar

The navigation bar, the light-blue area to the left, allows you to navigate to your desired destination within the LandHelp site. It is resizable, so if you want to make the nav bar wider, you can do so by dragging to the right the thin empty area immediately to the right of the scroll bar.

An auto-scrolling feature has been added to the navigation bar on the left; it is intended to scroll to the top of the nav-bar area the section name just opened. This is to make it easier for people with low-res computer screens or small browser windows to see what they're looking for (it would otherwise have scrolled off the bottom of the screen because of the large number of section names). However, bugs have been discovered in some web browsers, and while it works fine in some browsers, it scrolls to the wrong place, or not at all, in some other browsers. If this attempted feature becomes too much of a pain because of the bugs in some web browsers, it can be deactivated. If you have a strong opinion on this, contact Leslie Grosser (970-491-1458), and she will forward the requests to the webmaster.
